Cutting Ties

The world hands you a shadow
To tuck yourself in
The solace of a seeming freedom
Living in sin
I held on to a hopeless mess
And could not let go
And despite the pleas around me
I fell further so
But I thrive
And I survive
And I live and have never felt so alive
And I am strong
But not for long
Because I'll probably just fall again
They say my heart is too wide
Crowded by you
And when you do me wrong
What else is new?
I still leave the vacant place
In hopes it will fill
But maybe I'll finally learn
To let someone else fill it
But I thrive
And I survive
And I live and have never felt so alive
And I am strong
I see your wrong
And I won't ever fall again
Don't give what's holy to dogs
Or cast your pearls before swine
I'll give you what's yours
You can no longer have mine.
But I thrive
And I survive
And I live and have never felt so alive
And I am strong
I'll stay strong
I will never ever fall again
To tuck yourself in
The solace of a seeming freedom
Living in sin
I held on to a hopeless mess
And could not let go
And despite the pleas around me
I fell further so
But I thrive
And I survive
And I live and have never felt so alive
And I am strong
But not for long
Because I'll probably just fall again
They say my heart is too wide
Crowded by you
And when you do me wrong
What else is new?
I still leave the vacant place
In hopes it will fill
But maybe I'll finally learn
To let someone else fill it
But I thrive
And I survive
And I live and have never felt so alive
And I am strong
